Galagames node rewards become wallet tokens when operators redeem their mint allowances

Last updated ·

Galagames node rewards begin as allocations that eligible operators can redeem into token balances on GalaChain. For Founder's Nodes, GALA participation rewards appear as mint allowances, while the daily calculation reflects operating credit and applicable holdings requirements. Minting makes the selected reward amount available in the wallet and can incur a transaction fee. An unminted allocation represents a minting entitlement, distinct from the token balance that pays a wallet's transactions. License activation, reward eligibility and wallet authorization affect different parts of this process. That separation explains both a visible allocation without wallet tokens and changes in rewards despite continued node operation.

The short version: A transfer-ready Founder's Node stops earning GALA until reactivation, regardless of whether its owner has unminted reward allowances.

From an active workload to a reward allocation

Running the enabled Founder's Node workload under a valid, active license establishes the contribution that daily distribution rewards recognize. The system credits operating time, applies the relevant eligibility conditions and assigns a reward allocation for the cycle. Inventory identifies GALA rewards with a GalaChain Allowance designation. That allocation records an entitlement to mint tokens. It does not establish that the wallet already holds those tokens or has completed a conversion.

Daily distribution generally occurs around 02:00 UTC, and the precise timing can vary. An application that runs without the required workload license earns no distribution rewards.

Can unminted GALA count toward full node rewards?

Yes, the January 2026 holdings-based model counts GALA allowances toward eligibility for full Founder's Node rewards. The January 7, 2026 configuration sets the full-reward requirement at 1,000,000 qualifying GALA per Founder's Node. The model introduced on June 16, 2025 scales rewards proportionally when qualifying holdings fall below that requirement. Meeting the holdings requirement satisfies that part of eligibility; workload participation and an active license still matter.

The January configuration counts GALA held on GalaChain, in allowances and in eligible GalaSwap liquidity pools. It applies a 50% boost to the GALA portion in GALA/ETH, GALA/BTC, GALA/XRP, GALA/SOL, GALA/USDT and GALA/USDC positions. GALA/BENE receives a 100% boost. These multipliers increase the balance that counts toward eligibility. They do not establish a corresponding percentage increase in an operator's daily token payout.

Liquidity provision exposes the deposited assets to market changes and impermanent loss. Only the GALA portion contributes to the stated snapshot calculation. A later configuration can change pool eligibility and boost settings.

Uptime points describe the operational contribution

The uptime system introduced in March 2024 awards partial credit for the time that a workload actually operates. Under that system, a Founder's Node can earn four operating points across a 24-hour distribution day. Its base points equal credited online hours divided by six. Partial uptime therefore contributes partial points, replacing the earlier six-hour pass-or-fail approach. These points describe operating contribution; they do not establish the GALA amount that a node earns after the applicable holdings rules and distribution calculation.

The reward pool changes independently of redemption

Network emissions determine the tokens available for allocation, while minting determines when an operator converts an existing entitlement into wallet tokens. Founder's Node operators approved a different network economic model in the vote result announced on April 30, 2026. The approved design replaces the earlier gap-based approach with declining emissions, a continuing emission floor and gas-fee sharing.

The approved fee-sharing design directs 50% of GalaChain gas fees to node operators and permanently burns the other 50%. Those percentages describe portions of network fees. They do not describe an individual operator's return on qualifying holdings or the fee for redeeming that operator's reward allowance.

Approval and deployment are separate events. The April 30 announcement also placed implementation among the next steps.

An approved economic design alone does not establish the calculation that governed a particular distribution. Its applicable emission rules, participating operators and credited contributions determine that allocation. Redeeming an earlier allowance does not convert a projected network-wide increase into an additional earned reward.

What changes when a GALA reward allowance is minted?

Minting converts the selected GALA entitlement into tokens that the recipient wallet can use on GalaChain. The distribution calculation determines the entitlement, while completed conversion establishes the usable balance. The mint does not itself add another day's operating credit or create a second reward allocation.

The amount that becomes usable

Tokens in the wallet

Completed GALA conversion updates the wallet's GalaChain token balance. Minted tokens support eligible payments and transfers, with each subsequent action carrying its own requirements and fees. The destination of this conversion remains GalaChain. Moving tokens to another network requires a separate supported bridge operation when that route is available.

The unminted portion

A partial conversion leaves the remaining entitlement outside the spendable token balance. Adding the redeemed amount to both balances would count the same reward twice.

The wallet that authorizes conversion

Authorization follows the account's wallet setup. The legacy conversion flow requests a Transfer Code and an authentication code when prompted. Web3 wallet access uses the connected wallet to authenticate and approve supported actions. Signing a request authorizes its specified operation; it does not establish completion. The updated token balance identifies the completed conversion.

How much does minting a node reward cost?

The fee settings for the selected GALA conversion determine its minting cost, while the estimate shows the expected charge. GalaChain's September 16, 2024 fee rollout listed a charge of 1 GALA per currency-mint action from an allowance. That figure describes the rollout configuration, rather than a permanent price for every future reward claim.

An automatic GalaChain fee comes from the spendable wallet balance when the operation commits. A large unminted allowance does not establish that this fee-paying balance exists. The allowance can contribute to qualifying holdings while the wallet still lacks the tokens needed to pay an automatic mint fee.

Reward conversion, node-license NFT redemption and bridging carry distinct charges. In particular, a node-license redemption charge belongs to changing the license's representation, even when the interface also describes that action as minting.

Tokenizing the license changes a different asset

Redeeming a Founder's Node license as an NFT changes the representation of the operating right, rather than redeeming accumulated GALA rewards. Under the October 16, 2024 tokenization rules, an eligible license can participate in distribution as either a license allowance or a redeemed NFT. Redemption alone does not put the node into transfer-ready status.

A transfer-ready Founder's Node cannot operate or receive GALA distributions until reactivation. The transfer-ready setting therefore changes future participation, whereas a GALA reward mint changes the token balance. Reactivation has its own fee under the tokenization rules. An operator deciding whether to redeem rewards needs to distinguish the GALA allowance from the node-license allowance before authorizing either action.

An allocation appears without spendable reward tokens

In this hypothetical case, an eligible operator has a recorded reward allowance, no minted reward balance and too little spendable GALA on GalaChain to pay the displayed conversion fee. The operator needs usable reward tokens for a supported payment. The configuration in this case charges the mint fee automatically from the wallet.

A completed conversion would create the usable token balance. The allowance already records the earned allocation.

The operator reads the allowance entry, the separate wallet balance and the conversion fee estimate without authorizing a transaction. That check shows that the entitlement exists and that the wallet cannot fund the quoted automatic fee.

The operator postpones the mint. The reward remains an allowance and the wallet has no newly minted reward tokens. Conversion can proceed when the wallet funds the applicable fee and authorizes the supported request.

Wallet access affects the next available action

The wallet-access transition announced on October 5, 2026 preserves existing node licenses and allowances within the same Gala account. Email login remains available during that transition, with the retirement timeline awaiting a further announcement. Export to Web3 Wallet provides a route to continued access through the existing wallet. Moving to wallet access does not require sending rewards or licenses to a newly created account.

The exported private key controls that wallet, so its owner must protect it and use it only within the chosen wallet's import function. Wallet-based access also changes how supported actions request authorization. Continued node operation does not substitute for the credentials that authorize reward redemption.

Future distributions follow the active eligibility configuration. Minting changes the state of an existing allocation; spending, transferring or moving qualifying GALA elsewhere can change the holdings available for a later snapshot. When license status, credited uptime or qualifying holdings change, the next reward allocation can change too.

Galagames node rewards: what people ask

Does a Founder's Node need to be online at the instant rewards are distributed?

A node that meets the applicable participation and eligibility conditions can receive its GALA allocation even if it is offline at the distribution instant. Credited operation during the distribution period determines its operating contribution. Being online only when the distribution runs does not replace participation during that period.

Can one Gala Node software installation earn rewards for several Founder's Node licenses?

The Gala Node software model supports one workload of each licensed type on a computer. Additional Founder's Node licenses require additional computers to operate their corresponding workloads. Different workload types can share an installation where their requirements permit it. Owning more licenses does not make a single running Founder's Node workload represent all of them.

Are NFT bonuses guaranteed with every Founder's Node distribution?

NFT bonuses are random rewards, so running an eligible Founder's Node does not guarantee an NFT in each distribution. Such items are finite and separate from the GALA participation allocation. An absent NFT bonus therefore does not, by itself, indicate that the node's GALA reward calculation failed.

Is a reward mint allowance the same as permission to spend existing wallet tokens?

A reward mint allowance grants an entitlement to create the allocated tokens, while a spending approval permits an application to use existing wallet assets. The word allowance can describe both relationships. The token, authorized operation and amount establish what a particular permission allows; a reward allocation does not describe a blanket spending approval.

Can GALA held on Ethereum satisfy the GalaChain holdings requirement?

The January 2026 holdings configuration counts GALA on GalaChain, unminted GALA allowances and the GALA portion of eligible liquidity positions. A separate Ethereum token balance does not form part of those listed GalaChain holdings. Moving tokens between networks requires a supported bridge route, its applicable fees and successful completion.

Will redeeming a larger GALA allowance automatically increase the mint fee?

A fixed per-operation mint fee remains the same when the redeemed amount changes. The September 2024 configuration charged 1 GALA per currency-mint action. A different fee configuration can change that relationship. The estimate shows the expected cost, while the applicable settings govern the charge when the mint commits.

What happens to the transfer-ready fee if I reactivate my Founder's Node?

The October 2024 tokenization rules make the transfer-ready fee nonrefundable, even if the owner later resumes operation. Reactivation also has a separate fee. These charges concern the license's operating status; they are distinct from the transaction fee for minting an accumulated GALA reward allowance.
